TREE PLANTING

Buckland Celebrates Photos by Roy Harkness
in Buckland St Mary

The Yarty Garden Club last year had the imaginative idea of presenting  trees, one to Buckland St Mary and one to Otterford,  to commemorate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.

On February 23 Buckland’s tree, a whitebeam, was planted in the churchyard by parish councillors Gill Bromley and Rosanna Barton, assisted by the children of Buckland St Mary Primary School. Gill, helped by Rosanna, was the prime mover in organising Buckland’s 2012 Jubilee celebrations.

The day was ideal: very cold, but dry, so that planting, staking and the addition of naturalised daffodil bulbs (also from the Garden Club) went well. Chairman of the Parish Council, Frank Aplin, who provided a strong hand, and Councillor Linda Doble, who took the photographs, were also there.
